ARTIST APPLICATION GUIDELINES
  • As part of this process, but not mandatory or exclusory, we are asking that the winning three artists form a relationship with our program "Adopt a School" in which the greater arts community helps, through their expertise and talents, young people from a school that is unable to offer, through time constraints, teacher shortages, the area within which it resides or financial hardship, forms of arts education, encourragement or participation. We understand that you as artists have been lucky, hard work though it is, to be able to enjoy being a part of what the arts can bring to a person. We would hope that in some way you would consider passing or sharing your talents on to another generation. Again this is not a mandatory requirement but a suggestion.
  • The application process for the Sonoma Artist Awards for Performing, Music and Literary Arts 2010/11 is now totally online. That means we will not be accepting any hard copy documents or media items. There are no exceptions. If a nominee does not have personal access to a computer they may use a computer at the Arts Council offices. They must first get all their material on CD or DVD and upload from those discs.
  • The application form in Part 1 asks for personal details, choice of discipline in which you wish to be considered, your bio/resume, and artist's statement and a list of the documents or media items you will submit to accompany your application. We do not require nor desire and will ignore press cuttings or promotional material for you or any production or event you may have taken part in. You will be asked to list all the files you are going to upload with a very brief description of the content of that file. eg: Item 1:-public_joe_item1.mp3-Song from first CD. This convention applies to audio, video, documents and photographs. There is a link to a pdf version of the Item Listing Page which you might wish to download and print out to give you a visual/check list before you enter on line.
  • It is vital that you follow the conventions of file naming as these items will be pulled from a database based on the file names you enter. Those conventions are as follows: (Everything in lower case text) lastname_firstname_item# then followed by the file extension. For instance if you are going to upload 3 audio files in the Audio Upload Box (BOX1 on the Artist's Upload Form page) you would first make sure that the files on your computer you are going to upload are named in the requested convention before you upload. eg public_joe_item1.mp3, public_joe_item2.mp3, public_joe_item3.mp3.
  • You may submit 3 audio files, 3 video files, 3 online Video URLs and 3 documents. A combination thereof or up to a maximum thereof. Document uploads should not include your bio or artists statement. They should be submitted in the main form section in the boxes provided. Documents containing photographs should be submitted as PDF documents only.
  • For those who are applying in the Literary section of the awards a presumption may be made that you are likely to not be submitting any multi media items, though, of course, that may not be the case. If you are submitting a selection of poems, for example, in one file, a word document (doc) or a pdf document (pdf) then that one file must not exceed the equivalent of 10 letter size, 8.5 x 11, pages. If you are submitting mixed literary items such as prose, plays, the book from a musical, opera dialogue et al, then the same rules apply. You may enter three items of 10 pages, see above, total. So your total documentation must not exceed 30 pages in total. Those thirty pages may contain any aspect literary expertise. This does not preclude you from submitting 3 audio items, and 3 videos or 3 online video URLs.
  • Videos/Audio/Photographs/Written works can be of any production, performance, publication, reading and music or examples of radio/television or film work. It is the sole and necessary obligation and duty of the artist submitting such items that they obtain permission/s for use from any individual, or organization who may have part, partial or full ownership of the material submitted or be the copyright holder of such material. The Arts Council of Sonoma County accepts such material as representative of the applying artist's work on the presumption that such permissions have been obtained by the applying artist and, as such, are not obligated or shall not be made or seen to be responsible or the antagonist in any way should any submission contravene copyright or the applying artist or artists being seen to have failed to attain the neccessary use permissions.
  • Again, no DVDs or CDs or hard copy documents will be accepted in applications. All media MUST be submitted online.
